Additional paternity leave
Government plans to introduce additional paternity leave (“APL”) in April 2010 have been delayed. Subject to consultation and parliamentary procedure, the Department for Business Innovation & Skills now intends the new scheme to have effect for parents of children born on or after 3 April 2011. APL will allow fathers and partners of those giving birth or adopting a child to share the maternity or adoption leave and pay if the mother or adopter returns to work early.
