Professional Background

Dean joined M&A in October 2008 and is a Partner in our Corporate & Sports Departments. Dean advises corporate clients on a range of issues including investment strategies and corporate structures. He has been lead adviser on numerous share or asset sales and acquisitions for companies and individual shareholders.

Dean is recognised by the Legal 500 and Chambers as one of the Region’s leading sports lawyers. He has advised a number of high profile sports clients on a variety of corporate, commercial and finance matters throughout his career including:

  • the Football Association of Wales
  • the Welsh Football Trust
  • Regional Rugby Wales Limited
  • Commonwealth Games Council of Wales
  • the Sports Council for Wales
  • 2 Premier League clubs (football)
  • 4 Championship clubs (football)
  • over 30 Premier League and Championship footballers
  • various Wales international rugby players

Dean also provides commercial advice to our corporate clients on a number of contractual issues, including:

  • loan and investment agreements
  • IT / IP licenses and agreements
  • franchise & distribution agreements

Area of Practice

In addition to his corporate work in the work for in the private sector, Dean also advises public sector clients on corporate & commercial issues and is experienced in working to the unique requirements and policies of local government clients.

He has advised on several high profile public sector matters, including

  • various issues surrounding the construction, operation and management of a 22,000 seat stadium;
  • various issues surrounding the construction, operation, tax implications and management of a new £35 million leisure complex including the creation of tax efficient “Leisure Trusts”; and
  • the transition and new investment arrangements of a £900 million pension fund.

Dean is also the Managing Director of The Endgame Group (www.endgamegroup.com) which provides Sports Business services to companies, clubs and the public sector.
